Remain flexible
whether in a gas or dust atmosphere, you can reliably operate our explosion-protected motors in both hazard zones.
Use in parallel
since we combine gas and dust protection in one drive, meaning you can decide independently which hazard is more significant.
Be safe
thanks to their approval in line with EU directive 2014/34/EC (ATEX), IECEx or HazLoc-NA® and local approvals, you can use the motors almost anywhere in the world.
Meet ecological design requirements
with the EDRN.. motors. These are designed, manufactured and constructed in line with the latest standards, laws, and regulations.
Worldwide network
that enables us to help you with questions relating to all aspects of your application and the fulfillment of requirements in the target country for your delivery.
You can rely on our drive technology, even in potentially explosive atmospheres. There is no need to make any compromises either in terms of safety for your application or in terms of the variety of performance levels of the drives used.
Our explosion-protected AC motors of the EDR.. series comply with the most important international guidelines and standards.
With their IE3 energy efficiency classification, the EDRN.. motors meet the efficiency class requirements of many countries and comply fully with the requirements of European Directive (EU) 2019/1781.
The following rule sets were applied to enable use in as many countries as possible:
In Europe, the 2014/34/EU (ATEX) directive applies to devices and protection systems designated for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. EDRN.. motors meet all defined requirements for equipment intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres as stipulated in the directive. They are also available with different protection types or IP degrees of protection depending on the atmosphere, i.e. gas or dust.
In terms of their safety requirements, the motors of the EDRN.. series comply with equipment group II. To put it simply, you can use these explosion-protected motors in categories 2 and 3, in gas zones 1 and 2, and in dust zones 21 and 22.
For countries that recognize the IECEx system, the motors are available with IECEx certification in the EPLs b and c (EPL = Equipment Protection Level).
Based on the approvals to ATEX or IECEx, there are country-specific approvals for China (CCCEx), Korea (KCs), the Eurasian Customs Union (EAC Ex), Ukraine (UA TR) and Brazil (INMETRO).
The HazLoc-NA® motors have been certified by the notified body of the CSA Group under the Class Division System for use in class I (gas) division 2 and class II (dust) division 2. They meet the requirements of the Canadian C22.1 and US-American NFPA70 codes.
The motors come in 28 sizes (from 63 to 315), covering a power range from 0.12 kW to 200 kW. We thus provide you with access to countless drive combinations for the most diverse systems and machines in potentially explosive atmospheres.
Only half the solution without a gear unit? Then use our modular system and combine an explosion-protected motor with a helical, parallel shaft, worm, bevel gear or SPIROPLAN® gear unit of your choice. The range also includes a suitable planetary gear unit or helical-bevel gear unit for servo applications.
As a system operator, you must comply with special guidelines for areas with explosive gas/air and dust/air mixtures. We naturally observe these guidelines when developing new or existing explosion-protected drive technology. Put your trust in our many years of experience and expertise!
Explosion-protected motors of the EDRN.. series meet the energy efficiency classification IE3 according to IEC 60034-30-1 and premium efficiency according to NEMA MG-1 and Directive (EU) 2019/1781. Motors of the EDRS.. series meet the energy efficiency classification IE1 according to IEC 60034-30-1.

Based on the approvals to ATEX or IECEx, there are country-specific approvals for Brazil (INMETRO), China (CCCEx), the Eurasian Customs Union (EAC Ex), Korea (KCs), and Ukraine (UA TR)
Australia and New Zealand recognize the IECEx Certificate of Conformity (CoC) without additional certification or registration. The motors must be MEPS-approved (IE2 ≥ 0.75 kW) and registered.
Brazilian legislation requires a Certificate of Conformity (CoC) from the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (INMETRO). For this reason, the IECEx CoC is not valid in Brazil. However, the test reports (ExTRs) are recognized and form part of the CoC, as long as the motors with INMETRO certification are listed on the IECEx website.
Requirements for potentially explosive atmospheres on the Brazilian market are specified in regulations no. 179 (May 2010) and No. 89 (February 2012).
In China, explosion protection requirements are described in the GB 3836 and GB 12476 series of standards. These standards were harmonized with the older editions of the IEC 60079 and IEC 61241 series of standards. From October 1, 2020, motors must be certified to CNCA-C23-01:2019 and the manufacturing plants must be audited.
According to the Chinese efficiency regulations, the motors are to be marked with the Chinese Energy Label (CEL).
Gearmotors for the Eurasian Economic Union (Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus; Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan) are certified according to the requirements of TR CU certificate/declaration. They are marked with the EAC logo (Eurasian Conformity).
Products designated for use in potentially explosive areas feature an additional marking.
Motors for the UK are designed in accordance with the Equipment and Protective Systems Intended for Use in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2016. For the motors there is the UK declaration of conformity and for motors of category 2 the UK-type-examination certification.
The marking is analogous to the European regulations but with the UKCA mark.
The Republic of Korea, generally known as South Korea, requires equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres to be certified in line with the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
EDR.. are certified by the state-run KOSHA (Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency). Certified products are marked with the KC logo (Korea Certification).
In accordance with the REELS directive (Regulation on Energy Efficiency Labeling and Standards), explosion-protected motors have had to meet energy efficiency class IE3 since October 1, 2018. Motors are marked with the KEL (Korea Energy Label).
Motors for the Ukrainian market are certified according to the "Ukrainian Technical Regulations" (UA TR) and are marked accordingly.
